Networking for Dummies

When replacing 2 8-port hubs with a 16 port switch, simply unplugging all the cables from the 2 old hubs and plugging them all into the switch is not a good move.

I just did this and wondered why it completely knocked out unrelated sections of the network.

I'll leave it to you to work out my critical mistake. First correct answer wins a star.

    Link cables?

Yep ☺ I plugged the switch into itself. The resulting packet spam completely flooded the rest of the network. A couple of computers actually had to be rebooted to recover from it. Yes, I feel suitably dense.

Star for you. (Delivery not included)

Don't worry about feeling dense Xiven. Everyone knows you're dense anyway. I mean waiting 8 months to tell me that the lawnmower isn't really yours? Did you really expect me to believe that? If you told me that it wasn't yours in the first coulple of months, I might have believed you but I don't now. Why won't you give me the lawnmower? I will pay for the postage if that's what you really want. What would it be? 2 times the cost of a new one? 3 times?

I've written a poem that I think you should read, regarding your lawnmower. (got me an A in English :D )
    Xiven is livin'
    Xiven is livin'
    Give me the lawnmower
Or it won't be worth livin'

You have some very odd friends.

    I wouldn't call them friends...

You don't consider me a friend? I though we were great mates. You've upset me now. What did I ever do to lose your trust?
